Quantum Cognition

In this journal club we discussed Martin Fisher's arguments for quantum processing in the brain. Fisher drew inspiration for this research from his own experiences with the effects of antidepressants. The way in which antidepressants affect the brain is still poorly understood. Fisher proposes that it is quantum processing that is affected in the brain by psychiatric medicines. He centers his argument around a simple example: Lithium-7. He proposes that this atom interacts with "Posner molecules", which consist of calcium and phosphorus atoms. The presence of these molecules in the brain has yet to be confirmed.

This journal club took place on Thursday, 1st December, between 12-1pm in the XY-Cafe. Number of attendees: 5. Paul brought sweets. The paper was suggested by Paul.

The next journal club is scheduled for Thursday, 15th December, 4-5pm. We will be discussing NASA's EmDrive. This will be the last Journal Club of the year 2016! Join us for some minced pies, mulled wine, or spiced apple juice, along with discussions of important Santa questions, such as: how many chimneys could Santa reach in one night if she was to travel at the speed of light? And how big would she get if she was to eat cookies at each house?
